This product has been discontinued and
replaced by part US485COM which has
better performance and stability.

Compact USB to RS-485 converter cable with the chipset built into the USB connector. This design offers a convenient way of connecting your RS485 devices directly to the RS485 wires of this 485 converter cable or via the a two-piece screw terminal connector for easy disconnection.

The processor chip in this converter cable is the high performance FTDI chip which is compatible with all versions of Windows (32- and 64-bit), Mac and Linux.

Besides the RS485 D+, D- and GND signals this converter cable also provides an addtional +5VDC at the 485 end which can be used for powering your device if needed.
The cable itself is powered from the USB port so no additional external power supply is needed for this RS 485 converter to work.

After connecting and installing the drivers for this cable a virtual COM port is automatically created and will show up in your operating system's Device Manager just as if it was a real local COM port.

This USB to 485 converter is surge and static protected to protect against the most common damages from static electricity and other voltage spikes, which makes it suitable for most applications, including industrial, commercial and any general office environment.
Automatic send data control is enabled by default so no external flow or handshake control is needed.

Quick Tip!

Built-in USB to 485 converter

Obviously the main advantage of this USB to 485 converter cable is that it has the conversion circuitry built into the USB connector housing, which makes this converter ideal for tight spaces. However another advantage of this 485 converter is that since it has the converter circuitry built into the housing, the other end of the converter cable only has the bare wires, D-, D+, GND and an optional 5VDC available. Often this is ideal if you use the 485 converter for connecting and testing circuit boards or similar.
A convenient screw terminal, which makes it easy to connect wires to the converter, is also included with the USB to 485 converter. Another feature worth mentioning is that this converter has a 5VDC wire available which can be used for powering your device or electronic circuitry.
Finally, this converter is also protected against static electricity, high-voltage sparks and surges. Transient Voltage Protectors effectively protects your equipment and the converter itself.

This 485 converter cable is designed around a FTDI processor chip so as with most high quality 485 converters and adapters, after installing the drivers, the converter automatically creates a virtual COM port in Windows Device Manager which can be accessed and used as if it was a standard built-in COM port.

Be aware that many low-cost 485 converter cables are made with a low-cost chipset which makes it incompatible with newer versions of operating systems, fortunately you will not experience these problems with this particular 485 converter.
