This is our standard version serial to WiFi adapter. It has most of the commonly used serial parameters so it can be used with almost any serial device, both legacy devices and new devices.
As our other serial WiFi adapters this adapter can be used for connecting a standard RS232 serial device to your computer over a wireless access point or network. It will work with most RS232 serial devices and is an ideal solution for many applications including factory automation, office, laboratory, warehouse and most other commercial and consumer applications and environments.
It can be used in pairs in a point to point setup as a direct cable replacement or standard ad-hoc and infrastructure networks; you can even use it to access your serial device over the Internet through a wireless router.
The adapter's parameters can be configured using a standard web-browser. The VCOM software utility works with Windows but the adapter itself (not the VCOM software) is transparent to the operating system so once the parameters are configured the adapter works with Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and
most other WiFi enabled devices and applications (without VCOM software), which is great for machine to machine communication. Notice that the virtual COM port software included with the software utility only works with Windows.
The free downloadable VCOM software is a full working version of the virtual COM port software which creates a virtual COM port in Windows. The virtual COM port can then be used almost as if it was a regular native serial COM port.
This adapter also works with several versions of 3rd party VCOM software (only tested with Windows).
A mini USB cable is included for powering the adapter, alternatively a standard mini USB 110VAC/5VDC power supply adapter can also be used. Alternatively this serial to WiFi adapter can be powered by 5 - 40VDC through the screw terminals on the side of the adapter or by pin 9 in the DB9 connector.
