I use this for my laptop with System 8 and it does work perfect. I took off 1 star because the install could be better. When I viewed the menu on the driver mini-disc, it showed drivers for Windows 98 and on up to System 7 ... no System 8 driver! There was an Auto-detect feature, I used that and it detected a 64-bit system and did the appropriate install. When I plugged in the USB converter cable, it came up on COM 5, and I had to go back to the device manager and switch to Com 1. That done, it worked fine, so Yes, I do recommend it for System 8.
