Serial Converters
Information
Industrial grade mini RS485 / RS422 to USB converter similar to our part MWE820A, the difference between the two is that this converter has industrial grade specifications, with working temperatures from -40 to +85 degree Celsius. The housing is made of hardened ABS plastic with a reinforced terminal header for easy connection of communication wires.
This RS485 to USB converter is electrically protected against static electricity, high voltage spikes and other dangerous voltage spikes which can damage your equipment or data signaling. This protection is accomplished by four TVS's (Transient Voltage Suppressors), one for each data line.
Power for this converter is provided from the USB port so there is no need for an external power supply. It is designed around the high performance and very reliable FT232RL processor chip from FTDI, so it is fully compatible with all verisons of Windows, Mac and Linux.
This particular RS485 to USB converter is designed mainly for industrial environments but is also suitable for most other applications including any general office, commercial and laboratory environment. It is a bi-directional, (meaning it communicates in both directions) and reliable RS485 to USB converter that easily lets you connect any RS485 or RS422 device directly to your computer's USB port, efficiently converting USB signals to half-duplex RS485 or full-duplex RS422 and vice versa.
After installation of the included drivers the virtual COM port will automatically show up in your computer's Device Manager and can be accessed as if it was a standard built-in COM port.
The RS485 / RS422 end is a standard 5-screw terminal header for easy connection of single wires. Automatic send data control is enabled by default so no external flow or handshake control is needed.
Most RS485 to USB converter units are made with a USB cord attached to the housing of the DB9 connector, which is very convenient if you use the RS485 to USB adapter with a desktop or other stationary device. The small RS485 to USB adapter we have here is made without a USB cord as the USB connector is build directly into the RS485 side of the circit board. This is what makes this RS485 to USB converter ideal for mobile devices or laptops. The RS485 side of the RS485 to USB converter is a terminal header which is also built right into the circuit board which makes connecting wires easy. Another advantage of this small size RS485 to USB converter is that it has LED lights which indicates data communication through the TX and RX wires. This makes troubleshooting easier since you can actually see if data is present in any of the wires. One last thig t say about this RS485 to USB converter is that it has protection against electro static discharges (EDS protection) on all four wires. This protects the RS485 to USB converter itself and also your equipment against high-voltage spikes and sureges. So if you need a small ESD protected RS485 to USB converter compatible with all versions of Windows, Linux and Mac, this RS485 to USB converter is what you need.
