Serial Converters
Information
Using a USB to Serial adapter is the easiest way to create a RS232 serial COM port in most laptops and desktop computers. The way that a USB Serial adapter works is that the USB Serial adapter drivers create a virtual COM port in your computer which you can use as if it was a built-in COM port. On a high level USB serial adapter you will even be able to adjust several COM port parameters such as latency times and enumeration. The USB Serial adapter comes in different variations, the most common are single port non-isolated RS232, RS485 or RS422 models, however also isolated and industrial USB serial adapter units exists. If you chose a good quality USB serial adapter you will in most cases not experience any communication problems, however many low-cost USB serial adapters are not fully compatible with Windows 7 and Vista which is why we highly recommend spending a few extra dollars on a quality USB Serial adapter,.. it will easily save you much frustration and time.
